Operation #FundForHarriet Begins

In the past few days, several people have reached out to me expressing their gratitude for the work that For Harriet does. The recognition feels strange because I am so deeply thankful for this community. Thank you for every encouraging email and tweet. Your feedback and support are appreciated. When I dreamed of creating a platform for the elevation of Black women’s voices in my dorm room two and a half years ago, I never dreamed it would get us here.

I would love nothing more than to grow For Harriet and continue the work of encouraging liberating dialogues on black womanhood, but in order to do that, I need some help. Right now I’m a one-woman army. As web developer, editor, and publisher, I do what I can. But the site’s growth is severely limited because I lack time, resources and expertise.

Currently, For Harriet is a just blog — a blog with an incredible community of black women warriors behind it — but a blog nonetheless. I have always believed that this site and this community could be much more. With your help, For Harriet could be a multifaceted platform for the authentic stories of Black women. It is my dream that For Harriet will produce not only reflective essays but investigative journalism, video content, and short films as an alternative to corporate-owned media. This is an opportunity for us to represent ourselves fully.

If would like to help create a safe space for Black women in media, consider investing just a few dollars in a new media platform dedicated fully to promoting black women’s storytelling and journalism.

If you have additional questions about For Harriet or where the money will go, don’t hesitate to reach out to me via email (Kimberly@ForHarriet.com) or on Twitter.
Sincerely,
Kimberly Foster
